TERT03 - 2D/1N Kawah Ijen - The Apocalypse Mountain Tour

A morning departure from your hotel in Bali via mini bus. You will be whisked along the island's scenic west coast where you can experience a slice of the real Bali few tourists see. Stop for photos amidst terraced rice fields, rustic villages, surging surf beaches and the beautiful Bali National Park during the two-and-a-half hour drive to Gilimanuk.

Upon arrival, cross over to Java via a short ferry ride. Lunch is provided in a local restaurant. After lunch, proceed to a city tour in the small town of Banyuwangi. Hop on a bechak (pedi-cab) ride round the Kampongs in the city, and visit the traditional market and Chinese temple. Overnight at Ijen Resort and Villa.

Early wake-up call for breakfast at the hotel before taking a ride in a four-wheel drive up the slope of Mount Ijen, passing through plantations and one of the few rainforests in Java where giant ferns and big trees can be found. Stop at the Park Ranger's post before hiking further up the slope of the crater. An approximate two-hour hike is needed to ascend the rim of the crater along a shady track with amazing views. Take a rest on the edge of the crater at 2,883 metres altitude.

The sulfuric lake reflects eerie colour over the surrounding walls to give an apocalypse-like impression. Men seeking the sulphur descend into the crater and climb back up along the dangerous rim with loads of up to 80kg on their shoulders. The crater observation will be held at leisure. Afterwards, drive back to the hotel for lunch and depart back to Bali in the afternoon.
